Όπως επισημαίνει το μέσο Euractiv, «όλες οι πολιτικές ομάδες στο Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο απαιτούν οι συμβάσεις να είναι γνωστές σε όλους», πολλές ερωτήσεις having focused on the content of the SMS exchanges between Ursula von der Leyen and the CEO of Pfizer.
Η Véronique Trillet-Lenoir thus lamented to Euractiv that the elected officials never managed to know the production sites, never managed to have delivery schedules, to which Janine Small replied that the information in question was «confidential» for reasons of «competition». The contract followed the usual procedure Several MEPs returned to the attack regarding the SMS exchanged by the President of the Commission and the CEO of Pfizer, whose content was never made public despite repeated requests, including from the European Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly. On this subject, Janine Small affirmed before the elected officials that no vaccine purchase contract had been negotiated by SMS. «Everyone understands that during the pandemic we all worked from home», she emphasized, adding that the CEO of Pfizer had given his number multiple times during this period to «communicate around the world». Moreover, the laboratory representative argued that it was not possible to conduct such complex commercial negotiations via messaging, ensuring that «the contract followed the usual procedure».

Netherlands: the government would already consider going up to six doses of vaccine against the Covid Following the dissatisfaction caused by the absence of the CEO of Pfizer during the hearing, the Covi committee decided to send an invitation to Albert Bourla so that he could come to provide more extensive explanations, the MEPs having remained unsatisfied. «The firm and its CEO are not above parliamentary control», thus warned the Green MEP Michèle Rivasi, threatening to deprive the company of access to the Parliament by withdrawing its lobbying status. The committee meets again from October 13, with on the agenda a special report of the European Court of Auditors dedicated to the acquisition of vaccines against the Covid-19. In this document, the institution regrets having received, despite its requests, «no information on the preliminary negotiations for the most important contract of the EU», since it will dominate the Union's vaccine portfolio until the end of 2023. «It is the only contract for which the joint negotiation team did not participate» in the preliminary discussions, notes the Court. According to the National Rally MEP Virginie Joron, there is matter to signal a «suspicion of passive corruption» committed by Ursula von der Leyen. It was the New York Times that, in late April 2021, had mentioned exchanges «of texts and calls» between the head of the European executive and the boss of the pharmaceutical group «for a month». «This personal diplomacy played a big role in the agreement» that had just been finalized and concerned 1.8 billion doses of Pfizer vaccines, the American newspaper then affirmed. A journalist from the German site Netzpolitik.org then asked the general secretariat of the European Commission to transmit to him the «SMS and other documents» that led to the signing of this contract of several billion euros, in virtue of regulation n°1049/2001, which guarantees to any EU citizen access «as broad as possible» to the documents of the European decision-making bodies. The secretariat of Ursula von der Leyen had accepted to provide him an email, a letter and a press release, but no SMS, arguing that these do not constitute working documents of the EU. This refusal had led the German media to seize the European Ombudsman, and the file still embarrasses Brussels. Read also «SMS Gate» Von der Leyen – Pfizer: MEPs do not intend to stop there

Covid: Pfizer admits having put its vaccine on the market without elements on the transmission of the virus 12 Oct. 2022, 20:16 Covid: Pfizer admits having put its vaccine on the market without elements on the transmission of the virus © Ted S. Warren Source: AP The statements of the representatives of Pfizer regarding the tests of the vaccines against the Covid-19 provoked controversy (illustration). Follow RT France on Telegram logoTelegram The laboratory again provokes controversy for having indicated that its vaccine had not been tested as to its capacity to prevent the transmission of the disease before being put on the market, and for its lack of transparency on the contracts. The polemics around the pharmaceutical company Pfizer rebound after hearings conducted by the special committee of the European Parliament on the Covid-19, also called the Covi committee, which heard on October 10 the representatives of several laboratories on their role in the management of the pandemic. The CEO of Pfizer announces having contracted the Covid-19 despite «four doses» of his vaccine One of the statements of Janine Small, president of the developed international markets at Pfizer who represented the firm in the absence – criticized by several elected officials, according to the excerpt published by the European Parliament – of its CEO Albert Bourla, particularly attracted attention. «Has the Pfizer vaccine against the Covid been tested as to its capacity to prevent the transmission of the virus before its arrival on the market?», the conservative Dutch MEP Rob Roos asked her. «No», answered Janine Small, explaining that the teams of Pfizer had then to «advance at the speed of science to understand what was happening on the market» and that the urgency of the situation required taking «risks». «Vaccinate for others» was always a lie According to Rob Roos, this statement invalidates the speeches previously held by the laboratory: its CEO Albert Bourla had indeed affirmed several times that vaccination was necessary not only to protect oneself, but also to «protect others», particularly the elderly and fragile. A postulate that notably guided the vaccination policies conducted in Europe, then justified the establishment of the health pass, adopted by the Netherlands as by France. ««Vaccinate for others» was always a lie», affirmed the Dutch elected official commenting on this video excerpt, recalling the speeches held by the Prime Minister of his country Mark Rutte, according to whom the refusal to get vaccinated was «anti-social». Several French political personalities opposed to the health and vaccination pass reacted strongly to the statement of the Pfizer official. In a video published on Twitter from the ranks of the National Assembly, the deputy of Essonne Nicolas Dupont-Aignan judged that it was a real «thunderbolt», demonstrating that the government slogan «all vaccinated, all protected» was a «lie», relayed by the French president Emmanuel Macron himself. Huge lie «More than a year later, we realize that what I had said [...] was true, that we were lied to, that a huge lie [...] of States and pharmaceutical industries was organized to make you feel guilty for not getting vaccinated», he denounced, before demanding the reintegration and compensation of non-vaccinated healthcare workers, forbidden to exercise their profession because of their refusal to receive an injection. In the same way, the leader of the Patriots Florian Philippot qualified the statements of the Pfizer representatives as an «enormous revelation» justifying «the reintegration of all suspended personnel» as quickly as possible. «The scandal has lasted too long!», he added. The lawyer Fabrice Di Vizio, who carries the appeals of a series of suspended healthcare workers, expressed his intention «to seize the judge again» to demand their reintegration, judging however that these statements «bring nothing new». Rather pessimistic about the chances of success of such appeals «because all this is political», he nevertheless rejoiced at the «credit» given by Janine Small to his statements according to which «the subject was not the vaccine but the pass and social control». The capacity of the vaccines developed by Pfizer and by the other laboratories to reduce the transmission of the virus has been the subject of many discussions since the launch of vaccination campaigns and the implementation of devices such as the health pass and the vaccination pass. In November 2021, the World Health Organization had indicated that «vaccines save lives, but they do not totally prevent the transmission of the Covid-19», estimating then that the arrival of the Delta variant had reduced to a threshold of 40% the effectiveness of the vaccines against the transmission of the disease, against 60% previously. The Pasteur Institute estimated for its part, in autumn 2021, that infected vaccinated people had 50% less risk of transmitting the virus than unvaccinated people. Very effective against the severe forms of the disease according to a series of studies, the vaccines against the Covid would be less so to prevent the propagation of the virus, particularly since the arrival of a series of variants, including Omicron, even more transmissible than its predecessor Delta. SMS exchanges between Ursula von der Leyen and the boss of Pfizer: the tug-of-war continues The other part of the exchanges with the Pfizer representative focused on the transparency of the contracts concluded with the European Union. As highlighted by the media Euractiv, «all political groups in the European Parliament demand that the contracts be known to all», several questions having focused on the content of the SMS exchanges between Ursula von der Leyen and the CEO of Pfizer. Read also The Pfizer vaccine against the Covid (illustration image). Pfizer wants to sell 54 billion dollars of vaccines and anti-Covid pills in 2022 «We salute the scientific feat [...] of the company Pfizer in the race against the Covid-19, but this feat cannot justify the lack of transparency in the negotiation of the contracts», thus launched the Renew Europe MEP Véronique Trillet-Lenoir. If Janine Small maintained that Pfizer had shown «great transparency» and that all contracts were «available for the MEPs», several elected officials noted that certain parts were illegible. Véronique Trillet-Lenoir thus lamented to Euractiv that the elected officials had «never managed to know the production sites, never managed to have delivery schedules», to which Janine Small responded that the information in question was «confidential» for reasons of «competition».
