American Video Test of Anti-Bunker Bomb

An anti-bunker bomb

August 21, 2005

Here is an extremely spectacular video supposedly showing tests of an American bomb being fired at a bunker protecting an aircraft. However, since we do not know the origin of this video, sent to us by a reader, we provide it without any guarantee.

The video

As distinguishing real footage from computer-generated imagery has become extremely difficult today, we have asked our readers to investigate this matter. According to specialists, this is indeed a weapon with relatively modest performance and weight. The concrete thickness is also quite limited. In short, this is a device intended to attack aircraft that, without air bases, take shelter under concrete overhangs of obviously limited thickness. Such a weapon can be dropped by fighter-bombers conducting ground attacks. However, there are far more impressive weapons, which can only be dropped from aircraft like the C-130. There exists a video showing such a monster—weighing 7 tons—being dropped from the rear door of a C-130, with the descent filmed. These weapons were used during the war in Afghanistan, apparently with limited success, when Taliban shelters (caves in the mountains) were inspected.
