| It was an evening in May lam At the ball of the little suburb rem I went there with a light heart mi7 Looking for my loves lam The stars were shining lam The accordion was playing rem And my skirt was flying mi7 And my heart was sighing lam | I see under the arbor do Tenderly entwined sol7 My unfaithful love sol7 And little Dédé do They were saying sweet words do Swearing to love each other forever sol7 They were forgetting everything sol7 Thinking only of love do | And I, poor girl lam Deceived by his promises rem I looked sad mi7 Crying over my lover lam My heart was heavy lam Faced with the betrayal rem Of my lying love mi7 I was losing my mind lam |
| Here comes Dédé My heart is full of emotion He said to me, come on Germaine Come dance with me Held tight against him I felt his heart beating I forgot my worries I forgot my sorrows | Dizzy from the music Carried by the java In the magical night Dancing with little steps The ball was so merry That I didn't notice That the more time passed The more I changed arms | In the middle of the lilacs As I raised my eyes I find myself in the arms Of a handsome blue-eyed guy He looked kind And rather engaging He said you're pretty You smell of spring |
| When I think that just now I was fretting For my poor little heart Broken by emotion It took so little To give me joy again We're so good together Dancing the java | Let's turn, turn, always Let's dance, dance again Because you see, love Is the other side of the picture We laugh, we love, we cry We want to break everything But we quickly forget the hour Of our first kiss | It was an evening in May At the ball of the little suburb I came back with a light heart Forgetting my loves The stars were fading The accordion was sleeping And my skirt was flying And my heart was smiling |
