...In 1898, Tesla, an immigrant in the United States and inventor of alternating current and many other innovations, presented American military officials with a strange device designed to destroy enemy ships. Laden with dynamite, barely emerging from the water, and powered by electricity, the explosion of this remote-controlled robot could be triggered from a distance using signals made up of radio-electrical pulses, captured by antennas visible on the upper part of the device. The piloting was also remotely controlled by the same method.

...The American military showed no interest in this invention, understanding... absolutely nothing about it. And perhaps that was for the best.
