When people get the wrong era: Nikola Tesla

...In 1898 Tesla, an immigrant
to the United States, inventor of ... alternating current, and of many other things,
presented to the American military a strange machine intended
to destroy enemy vessels. Stuffed with dynamite, barely
rising above the waves, and propelled by electricity,
the explosion of this remote-controlled robot could be
triggered from a distance, using signals made up
of radio-electric pulses, picked up by the antennas
visible on the upper part of the machine. Steering was
also controlled remotely, by the same means.

...The American military
took no interest in this invention, of which
they understood... strictly nothing. And perhaps that is just as well.
