*Annihilation of the shock wave near an air intake,
in hypersonic flow.
A secret, known to the Russians and jealously guarded
by the Americans for twenty years. Their craft (the Aurora spy plane
and their antipodal hypersonic bomber have been flying since 1990 for the first
and 1997 for the second). The secret consists in placing upstream of the
air intake a wall-mounted MHD generator that acts as an
MHD decelerator and brings air rushing in at 10,000 km/h to
enter gently, in subsonic flow, into a conventional turbojet.

*ANTIBABEL (created in 1988)
: Is it possible to design software capable of allowing
people speaking a significant number of languages to communicate with each other? Automatic
translation software has its limits. They refer
moreover to a limited number of languages. The solution lies in designing
documents in their common form: their semantic structure. Antibabel
is a software project with semantic input of messages.
The machine rejects "anything it does not understand the meaning of" and thus eliminates
all ambiguities, gallicisms, anglicisms, etc. On
request the software then produces the sentence or text in a chosen language.
It may not be very elegant on a literary level,
but anyone who wants to disseminate their remarks to a broad swath of the world
population will be able to do so. Antibabel.

*Dark clusters: . The astronomers Fort and Mellier (Institut

no detectable electromagnetic signal (visible, UV,
infrared, X-ray range). Dark

*Lasers: MTHEL or Mobile Tactical High Energy Laser (May
2004). The Americans and the Israelis have successfully tested
the first mobile high-power laser battery capable of intercepting a shell or a Katyusha-type missile, isolated
or in a salvo, at a relatively short distance. These lasers, developed
by Northrop Grumman, developed since 1961, complement
the ABL, the Airborne lasers, or lasers carried aboard a
militarized version of the 747. With respect to the defense of a
territory like that of Israel it is the extension of anti-missile missiles
of the Patriot type. These lasers develop several megawatts, which
implies illumination of the target for a time on the order of a second.
The video of these tests is particularly spectacular:

*Natter (the "Viper"). The prototype built during
the Second World War by the engineer Bachem, a former glider pilot,
designer of the Fieseler 156 "Storch" observation aircraft, on which
I flew, in a club where this aircraft was for a time used
as a towplane. In 1944 the Germans envisaged a whole range
of craft "built from non-strategic materials",
that is to say, in the case of the "Natter", with wood,
glue and nails! The principle was simple. The craft was installed
on a vertical take-off ramp and propelled by
powder boosters. The acceleration at take-off
was such that the pilot lost consciousness, the ascent phase
being ensured by a gyroscopic autopilot. A
Walter rocket then brought the craft to 12,000 meters altitude,
at 990 km/h, in view of its target: a formation of enemy bombers.
The pilot could then, if he had regained his senses in the meantime, fire in
one burst 48 rockets of 55 millimeters, housed in the nose of the craft.
The entire operation did not exceed three minutes of flight.
Propellant off, the craft then lost altitude while
its speed fell to 250 km/h. The pilot then activated a lever causing
the craft to separate into three modules. Only the engine was
supposed to be recovered. The pilot descended
by parachute. After the war the Americans asked
one of the test pilots to give them a demonstration with
this type of craft. The man replied that all things considered he preferred
to be shot on the spot.
