I’ve always loved jazz. In the summer of 2003, my old friend Lionel de Bimard took me to an opening event that was followed by a concert. I must admit that I was immediately captivated and enthralled by the quality of this band led by Liz Newton. All four of them are extraordinary musicians. On the left is Michel Martel, the drummer. In the middle is André Gobatto, the bassist; on the right is Raphael Lemonnier, the pianist. They’re clearly extremely passionate about what they do, and it shows in their performances.
Of course, the musicians aren’t always at their best during every performance. In reality, only someone who really knows this kind of music can notice any minor differences between performances. But I can say that all four of them, each in their own way, come close to perfection. They’re truly professionals, at an international level.
Here’s a sketch of Liz, drawn during a concert, as she greets the audience:
Below is a picture of Liz’s house:
Liz is the “leader” of this band, which she founded. She has remarkable vocal abilities, very unique indeed. Anyway, you’ll find samples of their music below. During their performances, Liz skillfully coordinates the contributions of each musician. Each of them gets at least one solo opportunity to showcase their talents. I believe we can call this a “fusion” band. I’ve heard them perform several times, and I’ll continue to follow them because they’re truly delightful to listen to.
Recently, they created their own website. I encourage you to visit it for information regarding upcoming concerts, as well as more details about each member of the band.
