A new website (with English version): http://bourbakof.free.fr

Nicolas Bourbakof is going to meet Hubert de la Boissinière's team in Dzoun Boulak, Central Asia, which is building a strange vessel, partly powered by a mysterious propulsor supplied by a certain Jacobson. Everyone departs. In every direction beyond the Solar System. Accelerating at 0.5 g, the ship can surpass Pluto in 17 days. Bourbakof makes friends on board—Fowler, a physician who fled Princeton, and Turyshev, a biologist. Boissinière anxiously awaits a message from Jacobson, who will send instructions for this unprecedented journey. Unfortunately, a solar eruption interrupts reception. The expedition members are "flying blind." They only heard the beginning of the message when they learned there was "sufficient mathematical knowledge in Bourbakof's head to pilot the mission." But what knowledge, Boissinière wondered? How could they look inside his head? What questions should they ask? Boissinière asks Bourbakof to give seminars to the crew. One result is the Lagrange equation for a soap bubble problem. Turyshev thinks to himself he should have been a mathematician. Suddenly, Picard, the ship’s astronomer, detects a vast field of ice blocks directly in the ship’s path, moving at 8,000 km/h. At that speed, avoiding impact is impossible. These are debris from the 11th plane, disintegrated by tidal forces, now heading toward Earth. This is the reason for this final mission. Meanwhile, on Earth, Jacobson and his "friends" will attempt to destroy the swarm of comets that otherwise would not arrive in time. Boissinière remembers a blue envelope Jacobson left him: "to open when you’ve left the Solar System." He opens it...

1/1/2001: Perhaps some readers know that before turning to astrophysics and cosmology in 1987, I had a long career (15 years) in magnetohydrodynamics (I was initially a specialist in fluid mechanics and worked seven years at the Institute of Fluid Mechanics in Marseille, France, between 1965 and 1972). Perhaps also some know that I was deeply interested in the UFO case and devoted years to studying it. When I launched this website, I decided not to abandon this interest, but to conceal it. In fact, in my mind, it has never ceased for 25 years (I published four books on this subject; one was a bestseller in France). In 1975, I imagined that "MHD aerodynes" could navigate through dense air without producing sonic booms or turbulence. They could be perfectly silent. Moreover: based on MHD principles, they should be disk-shaped! At first, this idea seemed crazy. But it no longer does today. I published dozens of articles in scientific journals with peer review and presented papers at international MHD conferences (e.g., Moscow 1983, Tsukuba 1987, Beijing 1990). In the 1980s, a student, Bertrand Lebrun, completed a PhD thesis with me on this topic: "Shock wave cancellation by Lorentz forces, electromagnetic forces acting around a model immersed in a supersonic gas flow." The thesis was presented in 1986, and we jointly published numerous solid scientific papers (e.g., in the European Journal of Physics).

...Recently, I had new ideas. They were so exciting that I decided, with friends (including some top-level scientists now retired), to restart this research after a 13-year pause. We are building an experimental research site in southern France, using our own funds and traditional materials—electrical supplies, optical benches, and capacitor banks. Research will begin at the end of 2001. These new ideas are described in a MHD section.

...In another section, I present my personal thoughts on interstellar travel through a "twin universe." For those who can see, all my work in astrophysics and theoretical cosmology converges toward this goal. Perhaps it is time now to reveal this truth on my website.

There is much new material on my website, but I haven’t had enough time to translate it into English. Lanturluland currently speaks French, but as soon as possible, I will launch an English version of this sub-site. Indeed, there are many books and articles published in English, as well as in Japanese, Italian, Polish, German, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, and more. These works have been lost for years, and this website plus the CD-ROM edition is a way to ensure their survival. But thousands of pages need scanning, and I am alone...

Please be patient.
