About Crop Circles

You may have seen the October 11, 2002 broadcast on Antenne II, "C'est au programme." Journalists often prepare special reports around the release of new films. This time, it was related to the release of "Signs," starring Mel Gibson, a film that presents viewers with two hypotheses: a simplistic terrestrial explanation (a hoax) or an exotic one (extraterrestrial intervention). The journalist assigned to the report had contacted me. I was supposed to appear on the set alongside aviation journalist Bernard Souanel, but my participation was canceled at the very last moment. As a result, the program proceeded in the spirit of triviality that French media so often favor. They interviewed "ufologist" Dominique Caudron, who summarized the possible explanations in three categories:

  • A hoax
  • Extraterrestrial intervention
  • "Land Art" (a technique yet to be defined, whereby artists practice their art in open countryside)

But what else could one expect from a "ufologist"?

Had I been invited, I would have presented my own hypothesis—more unsettling, namely the testing of weapons capable of killing, based on pulsed microwaves acting on the "nodes" of wheat, deployed since 1981 by Anglo-Americans. Thanks to Bernard Souanel’s intervention, the program avoided complete absurdity. Nevertheless, one remark stands out—the final comment made by one of the journalists, quoting a message from a viewer:

"Why must everything necessarily be understood?"

That’s a stance. It merely reflects the complete superficiality of French media. If people still believe they can be informed or witness genuine debates on certain topics simply by sitting in front of their small screen, they are still living in illusions. After twenty-five years of experience, I’ve come to realize that there is nothing more superficial and easily manipulated by power than a French journalist.

It has been many years now since the phenomenon of crop circles has intrigued us. Readers may find in the references below images and studies conducted on this subject, as compiled by André-Jacques Sobecq, who traveled to the sites to investigate firsthand.

Another formation that could hardly have been created by pranksters. Note again the size of the figures within the central circle.

Another particularly remarkable formation:

Crop circles first appeared in the early 1980s in southern England, featuring fairly simple geometric patterns (1980: simple circles; 1981: first triplets of circles; 1983: first quintuplets of circles, etc.), which have grown increasingly complex over the years. Some characteristics of these formations: residual electric and magnetic fields are present, with intensity varying with depth. Some witnesses have observed these formations materialize in just a few tens of seconds. The 2001 foot-and-mouth disease epidemic led to extremely tight police surveillance of the countryside, yet this did not reduce the number of formations that year.

Of course, there are "agroglpyhs" created by pranksters. In authentic crop circles, the wheat is not broken or bent. Something seems to have acted on the node closest to the ground. The stem then acquires a bend of variable degree.

Researchers have conducted numerous studies on these altered wheat stalks. In many cases, chemical changes have been observed in the nodes, accompanied by dehydration and sometimes even carbonization at the node level (right-hand diagram). Temperature increases are estimated at 500°C. Photos show nodes that appear "exploded." This is very inconsistent with prankish activity, since in some formations millions of stalks would have had to be treated—and how?

André-Jacques Sobecq, who visited the sites and witnessed the appearance (the following morning) of a formation created near his hotel during the night, stated that upon entering the site he suffered a headache bordering on unbearable, forcing him to leave immediately. Other people have reported similar discomforts at other sites. Sobecq brought back bent wheat stalks, collected directly at the scene. Indeed, these formations result from bending of the stems, generally at the first node—the one closest to the ground. Biological analyses revealed dehydration in this part of the stem.

In Effervescience issue no. 23, July-August-September 2002, it is reported that "in one formation, a dead bird was found whose body had literally exploded, as if it had been cooked alive in a microwave oven. In other formations, desiccated hedgehogs were discovered. It is also noted that wheat grains are dehydrated and brittle. According to Dr. Levengood’s research, they are less electrically conductive."

Jacques Costagliola sent me a photo referring to a crop circle that appeared in 1989 in Estevan, Saskatchewan (Canada). It shows a dead, grilled porcupine found within the formation:

A note from September 26, 2002. Microwaves kill hedgehogs in English countryside, but when modulated at extremely low frequencies (to communicate with submerged submarines—see the HAARP dossier), they could also kill whales.

I will simply share my impression here. There are things surfacing lately. Readers of my website often help me by pointing out interesting leads. For example, the HAARP project dossier—someone will soon remind me of the relevant site(s) to consult, so I can return to the original document and cite the author(s). I’ll immediately add a link. For many years, the idea of a "climate weapon" has lingered in the background. As a scientist, I genuinely wondered how one might go about altering the climate. Of course, I could envision extremely powerful phenomena, such as nuclear winter—a topic I was the first to discuss in Europe, discovered by my friend Vladimir Alexandrov, assassinated in Madrid in the early 1980s for having tried to publicize this issue too widely, which greatly disturbed military-industrial lobbies. He must now lie buried in some concrete foundation in the Spanish capital, unnoticed by all. For details on this affair, refer to my book "Les Enfants du Diable," published in 1995 by Albin Michel.

Another factor capable of altering the climate: nuclear explosions...
