The Cotillard affair, as covered by the press

On Friday, February 29, 2008, the magazine Marianne made headlines by republishing an interview with the brilliant actress Marion Cotillard, dating back a year. The interview was published on the occasion of Cotillard receiving two awards: the Oscar for Best Actress and a César for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in the film “La Môme.” Journalist Bénédicte Charles added her own commentary.

Stronger than Thierry Meyssan: Marion Cotillard!
Article signed by Bénédicte Charles. Marion Cotillard, Oscar winner for best conspiracy theory. Marion Cotillard receiving her Oscar for Best Actress of the Year.
On the occasion of Marion Cotillard’s triumph at both the Césars and Oscars, Paris Première rebroadcast this week the episode that the show Paris Dernière dedicated to the actress exactly one year ago. With her adorable innocence, the talented young woman allows journalist Xavier de Moulins to follow her on her outings, willingly playing along with the quirky interview format. The problem is that while the questions are quite tongue-in-cheek, the answers aren’t always so. During a sequence filmed in the catacombs, Marion Cotillard even makes remarks about the September 11 attacks that Thierry Meyssan himself wouldn’t have disowned. Judge for yourself:

[Xavier de Moulins asks her what she thinks of the theory that Coluche’s death had nothing to do with an accident.]
Marion Cotillard: I tend to often agree with the conspiracy theory.
Xavier de Moulins: A bit paranoid?
M.C.: Not paranoid; no, it’s not paranoia because I believe we’re being lied to about many things: Coluche, September 11th. You can find all sorts of videos on the Internet about the September 11 conspiracy theory. It’s fascinating—even addictive.
X. de M.: For example, regarding September 11th, what disturbed you most, concretely?
M.C.: They show other similar towers that were hit by planes and burned... There’s one tower, I think it’s in Spain, that burned for 24 hours straight.
X. de M.: Before collapsing?
M.C.: It never collapsed! None of those towers collapsed. But here, in just a few minutes, it fell apart. And then you can discuss it at length... Because those September 11 towers were packed with gold. They were also a money pit because they were completed, I believe, in 1973; to rewire everything and bring it up to date with modern technology would have cost far more than simply destroying them... [At this point, it seems the rest of her speech was cut during editing, leading to this conclusion:] Did humans really walk on the moon? I’ve seen plenty of documentaries on this, and honestly, I wonder. At any rate, I don’t believe everything they tell me—that’s for sure.
Ultimately, we prefer Marion Cotillard on film rather than on TV!

PS: We would have loved to post images from this legendary TV segment, but unfortunately Paris Première’s legal department refused permission, and their communications department saw no reason to send us a copy of the program—so we waited for its rebroadcast to transcribe Marion Cotillard’s statements.

Is this the work of conscientious journalists? We hardly think so. Sadly, this attitude persists in the profession seven years after the events of September 11, 2001, and despite countless video documents having been made available to everyone, including journalists. Yet these professionals display an astonishing lack of professional awareness. Before addressing this issue, take a look at this PowerPoint file showing a series of photos taken from a helicopter, depicting the site of the Twin Towers. Focus on Building Number 7, adjacent to the Twin Towers and easily recognizable. Its cross-section is trapezoidal. You know it collapsed like a house of cards several hours after the Twin Towers themselves fell. You may also know that many people stood to profit from its contents being destroyed. It contained a massive amount of archives (including CIA files) as well as documents related to ongoing tax investigations, of great significance.

Study this PowerPoint carefully. Can you discern within Building Number 7 a fierce fire or smoke emissions that might indicate its weakening? Do you realize this building was part of the complex acquired by financier Silverstein? Later that day, in a filmed interview, he stated that this building, which was also his property and covered by his insurance policy, would be demolished. His words:

  • There were too many dead. We have decided to pull! (There were too many deaths. We’ve decided to “pull” the building down.)

This is a specific term used in controlled demolitions. By his own admission, the destruction of this building was deliberately triggered. Now, for a structure of such size and importance to undergo such voluntary demolition, weeks of preparation are required, involving the placement of huge quantities of explosives to sever its steel framework. Also note that its structure differed entirely from that of the Twin Towers. Its sudden collapse is completely inexplicable, to the extent that the official inquiry committee simply chose to ignore the event altogether.

We won’t judge the press here. The images and documents speak for themselves. It’s up to you to form your own opinion and conclusions.

Think for yourself; otherwise others will do it for you:

In 2004, ARTE broadcast a program titled “All Manipulated: September 11 Never Happened,” hosted by journalist Patrick Lecomte. Among the participants were Philippe Val, editor-in-chief of Charlie Hebdo, and Gunther Latsch, senior reporter at Germany’s Der Spiegel. In a mocking tone, the show staged a mock trial of Thierry Meyssan, who was the first to question the events of September 11, 2001. The program featured a film by Antoine Vitkine and Barbara Nacek, “All Manipulated,” which claimed that questioning these events automatically meant being an antisemite. The most absurd associations were made. None of the professional journalists had been present nor bothered to conduct any serious investigation; “all these allegations are so ridiculous,” they said. At the end of the “trial,” where the accused had no right to participate or defend himself, the jury convened and delivered its verdict. Here is the video of this “debate” finale, which was cut when the program was first released.

French journalism today

After watching or rewatching this brilliant debate from the April 2004 ARTE program, one might wonder if anything has changed in the press. Take a look at this recording of a “Parlons Net” show featuring Bénédicte Charles, Elisabeth Lévy, and a young, brilliant journalist on the right, who says:

  • Internet gives the illusion that there’s information hidden from the mainstream media. Thus, paranoid theories gain traction, since there’s no filter anymore.

Frankly, form your own opinion regarding this latest performance, four years after the ARTE program.

It’s not inconceivable that, faced with such a spectacle revealing a shocking lack of seriousness and professionalism, ever more viewers will abandon mainstream media to seek out other sources and try to form their own opinions.

Finally, a fairly recent document: the testimony of Mineta, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, at the September 11 Commission hearings on May 23, 2003.

mineta

Mineta, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, testifying before the September 11 Commission on May 23, 2003. This testimony was not included in the published report.

He testified that he was present in a special room inside a Pentagon bunker alongside Dick Cheney. Cheney was busy directing maneuvers to intercept a plane “hijacked by terrorists” supposedly located 200 km off the U.S. East Coast. To achieve this, he dispatched every available aircraft that could have actually defended the Pentagon.

Three times, recounts Mineta, a young aide to Cheney entered the room and told the Vice President:

  • Sir, the plane is now only 50 miles... thirty miles... ten miles from the Pentagon. Are you maintaining your orders?

Cheney replied, unfazed:

  • Have you heard anyone say these orders were changed?

This video was neither attached nor shared with members of the Commission.

On Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the European Parliament in Brussels, several hundred journalists—including all those accredited to attend parliamentary sessions—were invited to view the film Zero – Inchiesta sull’11 settembre. I attended; I found this 140-minute film excellent in every way—a true feat of condensing so much information into such a short time, alternating testimonies from survivors and witnesses with often unseen footage (such as Donald Rumsfeld helping transport wounded on the still-intact Pentagon lawns!). Currently, it has no distributor, though I believe it would draw packed houses today. Giuletto Chiesa, Italian MEP with a true “anti-mafia judge” vibe, was accompanied by a very wealthy and motivated Italian team, while in France everyone sleeps on the job. Beside him was Dr. David Ray Griffin, author of several books offering crystal-clear explanations, and Japanese MP Yukihisa Fujita, who recently made headlines by raising these issues in the Japanese Diet, leaving embarrassed MPs and ministers speechless.

None came. Only two Russian journalists showed up.

Six hundred parliamentarians were invited to this screening followed by a debate. Six responded. I was in the audience. We awaited questions from journalists or MPs. I spoke only once, explaining that controlled demolition of the Twin Towers could have been negotiated without using an explosive called thermate (something someone present doubted); yet photographs of beams still in place, cleanly severed at 45 degrees, alone prove that explosives were placed “on top” to slice through thick beams via hollow-charge effect.

This abdication, this policy of empty chairs: all these people—parliamentarians or journalists—fear facing a dramatic, unbearable, utterly destabilizing line of questioning. The same holds true among the general public, which slowly becomes aware of the problem and agrees to turn its gaze toward these intolerable facts.

This behavior isn’t unique to any particular group. One finds it identically among scientists or engineers, fully capable of perceiving how discordant the official narrative is, yet I hear them say “I can’t ask myself this question. If it were true, it would be unbearable.”

Take a look at this document compiled by a collective of U.S. structural engineers and translated by Frédéric Henry Couannier, France.

Will you dare consider the inconceivable? Watch hours upon hours of videos on the site:

In an interview with Egyptian magazine
Al-Hayat,
American actress Sharon Stone (Oscar winner for Best Actress in 1996) declared:

“I never believed the story told us about the destruction of the Twin Towers on September 11... I don’t believe that the wars waged by the United States in Afghanistan and Iraq resulted from the September 11 attacks.”

Numerous Hollywood luminaries have expressed similar views. Among the most famous: actors Martin Sheen (6 Emmy Awards and 1 Golden Globe) and his son Charlie Sheen (2 Golden Globes); recently, (1 Oscar) screenwriter Robert Baer; directors Michael Moore (1 Palme d’Or) and David Lynch (1 Lion d’Or); rapper Mos Def (1 Emmy Award, 1 Golden Globe), etc.
