First European Ufological Meeting
First European ufological meetings
from October 14, 2:00 p.m. to October 16, 6:30 p.m. at the Châlons-en-Champagne exhibition center.

Sent by a reader: one of the stands
Before this event I warned my readers that there was no way I would set foot there. for my readers, to clarify: I will not set foot there. Neither at this event, nor at the following ones at other events of the same kind. A year ago I definitively distanced myself from the ufologist fauna, a veritable assembly of Bandar Logs, from which nothing scientifically constructed has ever emerged for more than forty years. I believe all of that has been confirmed.

( Read my short story on the theory of universons, whose author is the engineer-ufologist Claude Poher, former director of Gepan, retired from Cnes)
Excerpt from the announcement made by Associated France Press:
REIMS, Oct 12, 2005 (AFP) - Some 200 specialists in the UFO phenomenon are expected from Friday to Sunday in Châlons-en-Champagne (Marne) for:
the "First European ufological meetings"
an event presented by its organizers as "unique in the world for its scale."
Several thousand visitors are expected over three days at the Châlons exhibition center, transformed into an information center on unidentified flying objects and flying saucers, Gérard Lebat, who set up this event with the Ovni Marne association, told AFP. Scientists, authors, researchers and investigators, notably from Belgium, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark and the United States, will present the results of their work during public lectures.
According to Mr. Lebat, the event will have "a scientific character": "the greatest European specialists in the phenomenon" are to meet during a private colloquium and publish at its conclusion "a communiqué of high importance on the latest developments in research."
Over 2,000 m2, an exhibition will present thousands of documents, models and equipment. The public will also be able to talk with members of associations, publishers, authors or specialized webmasters. France is, according to Gérard Lebat, "one of the leading countries in research on the UFO phenomenon." It was the first to equip itself, in 1977, with a specialized body, Gepan (Group for the Study of Unidentified Aerospace Phenomena), within Cnes (National Center for Space Studies).

**December 12, 2005: **A reader sent me the CD containing the recordings of the various talks that took place during this colloquium. Get this CD, distributed by the radio station Ici et Maintenant. I could say that listening to it needs no comment. If you have a minimum of intelligence and discernment you will be immediately enlightened. Everything is hollow, full of hot air. A young woman trumpets the birth of a deliberately European grouping: "the European Ufo Survey," the E U S, where "a group of scientists, self-financed, have divided themselves into departments." Sole "claim to fame": an article composed by a "theoretical physicist," whose titles and qualifications and record of service are unknown, as are those of the various members of this association. The EUS has its own site and its acronym, "European." There one finds the work done by "this high-level scientist" which is practically empty. It amounts to a few lines and is "at its very beginning." Place of this publication: the site of this grouping. I suppose that the announcement of the birth of this association was "that shattering communiqué, of the highest importance, that the organizers announced at the end of the colloquium." All of this is dismaying. When I have a moment I will take all of this up again, talk by talk, and critique it. There is a real demand among the public regarding this UFO file, to which we will have to respond and we are working on it. But this response cannot take the form of holding colloquiums where those who can be called:
The Euro Bandar Logs
have gathered
I had to force myself to listen to all these hours of talks, each more stupefying and emptier than the last. A site is going to be created, where we will try to give the minimum of information concerning the approach to the UFO phenomenon, on its nature, associated with authentically scientific work that has constituted the fallout from its study. Readers may be shocked by such an abrupt judgment. But let us be clear: nothing of what may have been said at this Châlons en Champagne meeting lies within the field of science, reaches the minimum of credibility, or has been the subject of the slightest scientific publication. I think in passing of an interview I gave to a Canadian radio station. The journalist:
*- But, Claude Poher is a scientist, no? - No. He is a former technician turned in-house engineer, as Vélasco was. He is a "risen from the ranks." I have nothing against people who follow such paths. Some have sometimes become very great innovators, very great scientists, going far beyond titled but sterile people. But Poher, no more than Vélasco, has been able to produce work deserving the qualifier "scientific." These are inescapable facts. - Claude Poher presented himself to us saying he was an astrophysicist. - He has never published the slightest work in an astrophysics journal. Beyond that, he has never published the slightest article in a scientific journal, with a reading committee. All his "publications" are "Cnes internal notes," which are subject to no oversight. Poher has never given the slightest seminar before a genuine assembly of scientists, otherwise, like Vélasco, he would have been shot down at once. I have nothing against Claude Poher as a man. He is above all very naive and I think that when he presents himself as a scientist it is quite simply because he believes he is one. But he simply does not know what science is. *
I had found the same naivety in a Vélasco, who had made me explode on a television set about fifteen years ago, when I heard him say:
- We are here among scientists...
This deficiency, this mediocrity is simply a sad reality. It also applies to "Professor Auguste Meessen." During this colloquium the latter proceeded to the umpteenth presentation of "his" MHD aerodyne model, which he had had the idea for in the early 1980s. I remember that at the time I had immediately sent him my note to the Comptes Rendus de l'Académie des Sciences de Paris of .. 1977, where all of this was described with much more detail and precision. It is not this question of priority that I am focusing on. It is the nullity of Meessen's discourse on the subject of MHD, which has given rise to no scientific publication for 30 years. The title of "university professor" has never been a guarantee that one is not a has-been.
Everywhere one sees opportunists stepping up to try to grab something along the way. One preaches for his "ufological dinners," another tries to sell us a "group of European scientists, bringing together fifteen nationalities," aiming, who knows, at recognition by the "Council of Europe," a status of "Euro-Ufology"!?! It is angling for suckers.
I do not regret having been absent from this lamentable circus. Everything will play out "site against site." The readers will make the difference. We must inform, quickly, to allow the public to realize the vacuity of what is served to it in this "ufological milieu." If we criticize the mediocrity of certain works, we must show others that are of another caliber. I think for example of the work of the late Michel Bounias, who really produced historic work in the study of UFOs ( his biological analysis of the traces linked to the Trans en Provence case ). In comparison with such work, the mention by the EUS and all the participants of the Cometa booklet, which reveals everywhere the scientific nullity of its authors, as a "historic document" has something demagogic and lamentable about it.
*It is high time to clean the Augean stables, by Jove! * ---
I was finally able to listen to the montage that had been made by France Inter by Robert Arnaut's team ( programs histoires possibles et impossibles ) from an interview I had given on the Ummo affair. To listen or listen again.
In a lighthearted way I think it is the first somewhat relevant program that has been made on the subject in 28 years. I remember the attack by the journalist Berkoff, in 1991, on La Cinq, during a program "Ca m'intéresse" that he had devoted to the subject. Questioning the journalist Martine Castellot, who had immediately picked up on this theme, he had said to her:
*- So, these Ummites, it seems they have erections when their vessels are subjected to accelerations *?
