Watch your
spelling! Have your texts proofread.
Do not translate
"word for word". Keep the meaning but use your own
expressions
For
translators whose languages are written from right to left:
remember to reverse the TIF pages right-left before writing
your texts on them.
Photoshop is the
best software for writing texts into "empty
bubbles". Load the pages in TIF bitmap. In black and white, do
not switch to Greyscale, it increases the weight of the files and
will make your work unusable.
Provide us with
fully finalized work. Touch-ups, errors: wasted time!
In black and white
the files, after assembly into pdf, must be less than 4 MB in weight. Less than 9 MB for color. Files
producing heavier pdfs will be unusable.
Do not forget that these files are made to be downloaded
! If retouching work proves necessary ( file
weight, spelling ) that the translator will not do himself, I will
have to entrust it to someone who will pocket half of the 180
euros. The translator will then receive only half. Remember
that for the moment Savoir sans Frontière is one
person: Jean-Pierre Petit, Gilles taking care of the
accounting.

There was once an ( unofficial ) translation of my comic
strip " Everything is Relative " on Restricted Relativity into
Persian ( Iran ). The only copy of this comic strip was
borrowed from me 25 years ago at my home. If someone could
simply send me a pdf file with the scanned pages, that would
allow me to make this album available to Iranian readers. For
the record, the album complies with local religious
requirements, Sophie having been given by the pirate publisher
a chador, loose-fitting trousers and clothes hiding her
famous bosom from view. Below, character on the right, an
image taken from one of the rare photocopied pages that I was
able to keep.

As an indication, the
only country that has redressed the heroine is America. To be
precise, therefore, I should make the English and American
versions available as a free download, in parallel. Below is an

Jungle less than 24 hours after I put the
French version online ! In one year he translated nine comics, whereas
we had had so much trouble finding good translators for
Arabic, so requested by Arabic speakers. Thanks to him, to Rym Zobiri
and Samer Alssaraj this list was completed, except the last
album the Spondyloscope, which he is in the process of finalizing.

literary, sent us on 7 April 2009 her translation in
text form of the album Energetically yours .
8 May 2009 : Her translation was examined by an
Arabic speaker, a scientist in his own right, who found in it a large
number of typos, errors and omissions. The
remuneration of 100 euros for this translation in text form will
therefore be shared between this translator and this proofreader and
the corrected whole will be put into graphic form and installed on
the SSF site. That being said, Gilles and I manage 100 translators,
in 33 languages. We cannot establish collaborations with
translators whose texts would have to be checked
and corrected each time. This lady's approach certainly stemmed
from the best feelings in the world. But we ask
candidate translators to offer us their services only when
they possess the required skills.

is finished, made by Marie Kayirere and has been proofread by one of
her friends, a Rwandan-speaking economist.
Technical details resolved with the help of my friend
Denis Boland. This African language is spoken and read by
millions of human beings. You know that the goal of Savoir sans
Frontières is also to work in favor of ethnic
minorities. Language is the heart of a people. If all the
peoples of the world must unite and understand each other, they must
also preserve their identity. That is why behind the
Savoir sans Frontières project hides a much vaster project
which is to create automatic translation software
from one language into another, instantly, which would be coupled
to a communication tool like " MSN Messenger ". See my
project ANTIBABEL,
which is already ten years old. Why would this software
work " from Rwandan to Norwegian", and
vice-versa ? Because it would be based on a semantic
input of speech. One would input the meaning of the
message, with the help of an image database.
Even illiterate people could "read and speak" by using
an animated and sonorized ideographic translation. Making
men communicate with each other is an urgent task if
we want to avoid this planet becoming a
bloody battlefield. This project is by no means
a fiction because a similar tool already exists, based on
the same principles, but which is worth .. 1000 dollars. Antibabel,
you can well imagine, would be free. What I have understood with
the Savoir sans Frontières operation is ... that money is
the sinews of war. One hundred and fifty euros is little for an
American, but it exceeds a month's salary in many countries ( although for the associated translators their
participation goes far beyond the simple goal of earning
some money ). That is why the project is developing
so quickly ( what are the Nordic countries waiting for to join
us ? We have no Norwegian, Danish translators ). And
it will move forward with or without the help of institutional
structures. With, if possible. To get the Antibabel project off
the ground it would take a large group
of computer scientists and linguists. There are in poor or "not
very rich" countries many creative and very
competent people and it is toward these people that we will turn,
by paying them, quite simply. Then this tool could see
the light of day, in a few years. And if the large institutional
structures help us, so much the better, otherwise this project
will see the light of day with or without them.

| There is an amusing joke in the old American black-and-white film, made in 1941, whose title is " Hellzapoppin ". An absolutely senseless film by Harry Codman Potter. One of the characters, Peppi, is played by Mischa Auer. In this film, Mischa plays the role of a Finn, and we find the following dialogue: - You have a strange accent. Your are not British ? - No - What country are you from ? - Iam Finnish - But you d'on't speak Finnish .... - No. Finnish is too difficult. |
No doubt the Finnish translator, or her
co-religionists will react sharply saying " that's false,

Above this immense construction,

lectures for the benefit of Savoir sans Frontières on various subjects, such as
Egyptology, astrophysics, cosmology, etc...I
still sometimes receive orders for CDs bearing the
pdfs of the albums. Goodness, people can always send
orders made out to Savoir sans

something coming in. 16 euros each, 28 for two, 39 for three CDs.
But you can also give whatever you like.
As usual I will enclose a drawing of my own for
each CD.We may one day have subsidies
from public bodies. We can hope that members and
translators will succeed in mobilizing the public authorities
of their different countries so that these can
contribute to the financing of translations and to their
distribution ( a Turkish association will shortly, in
principle, publish on paper the translation of Si on Volait, (
alias l'Aspirisouffle ) which will be sold in Turkey at cost
price. I sent the letter of agreement on June 2, 2006.
The comic strip that I have started,
on electricity, targets the 12-year-old level ( which is also
that of the "general public" ). I would very much like to free up time
to make new albums. It is not ideas that
are lacking, but ... time, alas.
We are looking for translators
in all languages, in particular in:
People sometimes ask us why we do not
limit ourselves "to the most widely spoken languages". But languages
are also the soul of peoples, their blood, their roots. In
the future we will be keen to produce talking albums for
ethnic groups whose languages are not written. All this
is feasible and it is useful, beneficial, at little cost. What
are a few tens of thousands of euros on the scale of a
planet ? In the following albums there will be
directly usable knowledge, in matters of ecology,
renewable energies, health, new technologies.
The sequel to the Economicon will deal with international
economic problems by revolving around an economic game that will be
built in java language. I have found solid reinforcement for
this old project. Tutorials will complement the books, the
two mingling ( books with animated gif animations, etc ).
We are looking for volunteers with a
scientific background likely to provide reinforcement to the
translators of the albums with regard to specialized words and expressions
