UFO Sighting in England

July 25, 2008

July 31: This sighting would have been due to balloons carrying lanterns.

The previous Saturday, July 21, 2007, a group of slowly moving lights was observed by a hundred witnesses, photographed and filmed above Stratford-upon-Avon, England. The phenomenon lasted thirty minutes. People came out of pubs. People took out their mobile phones equipped with cameras, etc. The night was clear. Although the air traffic control services did not record anything special on their radar that night, all these witnesses are convinced they observed the ballet of extraterrestrial visitors (...).

The show began at 10:30 PM. People saw lights arranged in a triangle, drifting in the sky. A few minutes later, a new object approached, slowed down and finally hovered in the sky. Some skeptics suggested it could be hot air balloons or fireworks (...) or balloons carrying lamps released from a nearby football club. Others reported the agility of the movements, which seemed unrelated to those of an airplane. Witnesses said these objects seemed to move independently of each other. People came out of their houses or cars to observe this spectacle. Hillary Potter, from the BEAMS (British Earth Aerial Mystery Society), said that similar objects had flown over the country and that they had been flooded with calls. Frankie Spray, from Wellesbourne Airport, just beyond Stratford, said, "These lights had nothing to do with us. None of our planes had performed a night flight." But nothing on the radar.

This is typically an observation that could have been analyzed using a spectrometer device or a camcorder equipped with a diffraction grating filter. A witness would have had plenty of time to equip his device, and even to take photos on a tripod, if he had one.

If readers can contact Hillary Potter and the BEAMS, they should do so. Once Julien Geffray is again operational on the UFO-science website, where these spectroscopic files will be transferred, everything will be available in English.

Will we ever get out of this endless and sterile accumulation of visual testimonies and ordinary photographs or films?

Following information received at the end of July: it is still easy to fool people using balloon releases. It doesn't change the problem. It explains neither nor solves anything.
