Bin Laden's financial power, the secret links probably maintained with some members of his numerous and wealthy family, and the important links of this latter with the Texas oil complex (including the Bush family), contributed to fueling the theory of an Islamic-American conspiracy, or even an Islamic-American-Zionist conspiracy after September 11, 2001, a theory based on the idea of the convergence of interests between jihadists eager to accelerate the awakening of the Islamic world, Americans interested in Iraqi oil, and Israelis determined to change the borders of the Middle East. On September 11, more precisely, "Why did the September 11, 2001 attacks constitute a lightning-fast acceleration of the clash of civilizations? Because the world has split between those who think that a formidable Islamist attack triggered a war against the liberal and democratic West, and those who think that a Machiavellian American-Israeli conspiracy was the starting point of an American war against the rest of the world. An hypothesis that is not short of arguments, although it may not necessarily convince.

First, the victim families' associations qualify the official text [final report of the commission] as a "final report of omission." "The theories that question the official version revolve around three distinct topics: the attacks on the World Trade Center, the attack on the Pentagon, and the ambiguity of Israeli intelligence.

WTC: Mined towers?

The fire cannot be responsible for the collapse of steel-structured buildings. While the Meridian Plazza in Philadelphia burned for nineteen hours without collapsing in 1991, the South and North towers would have respectively collapsed after one and two hours of fire, this when Scientific American (October 2001) stated that nothing as solid as the WTC had ever been built.

The fire was not as intense as the investigation claims, since, according to FEMA (the American civil protection), the jet fuel evaporated in the explosion. The Cardington test proves that a steel building can withstand temperatures much higher than that of jet fuel combustion. The Fire Engineering Magazine, a reference in fire science, states that no steel building has ever been destroyed by fire and that the WTC investigation was nothing but a "gross farce."

Even more disturbing is the mystery of Building 7, which was suddenly destroyed at 5:30 p.m. The "FEMA’s Report on the collapse" cautiously acknowledges that "the details on the fires in Building 7 and how they caused the collapse are unknown." This mystery leads to the strange Mr. Larry Silverstein, owner of the WTC only since July 24, 2001, who had worked to replace the maintenance and security staff, had asked the firefighters to "pull" Building 7 (a term that denotes controlled demolition). But how could the firefighters of New York, who did not have the qualified personnel in controlled demolition, have placed explosives in the right places in a building that, according to the official version, was on fire, when it is known that a prepared implosion requires at least two weeks.

Was Building 7 not the control center that would have been used for the demolition of the entire complex?

A few months earlier, the 23rd floor had been renovated to become an emergency command center for the city of New York. This floor, which could withstand exceptional situations, offered an ideal view of all the WTC buildings. In Painful Questions, Eric Hufschmid notes that the trajectory of the two planes seemed to aim at Building 7, as if it were emitting a self-guiding signal.

The theory of explosives is illustrated by another fact: a thermal map of the WTC debris provided by NASA shows that five days after the attacks, the temperature inside the basements of Building 7 and the South Tower (where the heat was trapped) was still higher than the melting temperature of steel. Only explosives like C4, which raise the temperature to over 1600 °C, can explain the melting of the basement structures of the towers.

As for the Venice flight school (Florida), it is pointed out for its historical links with the CIA.

On the morning of September 11, several military simulations that could serve as a cover for the attacks took place (under the control of NORAD, US Air Force 2 and the CIA): it was Northern Vigilance, an annual Air Force exercise simulating a Russian attack, which led to moving the fighter jets usually patrolling in the Northeast to Canada and Alaska, the exercises Vigilant Warrior and Vigilant Guardian, simulating plane hijackings and the injection of false aircraft signals on the radar, and the operation Northern Guardian, which would have weakened the response capacity of the Langley Air Force Base.

The Pentagon The terrorists, who caused the death of more than 2500 people in the WTC, would they have been so foolish as to strike the only empty part of a building, the Pentagon, where 20,000 people usually work? The wing hit was under renovation; it was supposed to have its walls and windows reinforced against a cruise missile or drone attack... To strike this wing coming from the opposite direction, the plane (if it is flight 1177) would have had to make a 270° turn. When the Columbia shuttle exploded 65 km above Texas in 2003, at a speed of 19,000 km/h, with its seven astronauts, human fragments and debris of the aircraft were found over hundreds of kilometers. How to explain the absence of significant debris and body parts in the case of flight AA 77?

Where are the 60 tons of engines, fuselage, seats, luggage and of course the passengers?

The Global Hawk drone resembles a small Boeing. It is silent, flies at 18,000 meters altitude without being detected by radar (the air traffic controllers would not see it coming; yet they did not see flight AA 77 coming) and its explosion would leave, because it is composed of half carbon fiber and resin, only 2 tons of debris.

The construction method of the Global Hawk drone is summarized as a single engine. The rest is light alloy, composite and carbon fiber to avoid radar detection. It can fly at 18,000 meters altitude. This view gives an idea of its size. With minimal fuel load, the wings and fuselage would be almost vaporized upon impact. With it, the Pentagon's lawn would be littered only with a few thin aluminum pieces, and engine fragments, like the one found in a photo, which is far too small to belong to a 757. Officially, in December 2002, the US army reported the loss of two Global Hawks in operations, without knowing the cause (source: Christopher Bolen, reporter)."

Israeli intelligence The third part of the "conspiracy theory" revolves around the arrests of Israeli citizens by the FBI just after September 11. The very official memorandum of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (report of the US Senate Intelligence Committee), titled "Israeli Surveillance of Future Air Pirates and FBI Suspects in the September 11 Attacks and Its Failure to Give the United States the Necessary Warnings: The Need for a Public Inquiry" (published on September 15, 2004), reports numerous facts that can only fuel the controversy. What does this Senate report say? That Israeli groups (more than 125 people), under the cover of espionage within the framework of the American DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency), followed the activities of Muslims on American soil. These "Israeli DEA Groups" were divided into cells (New Jersey, Hollywood in Florida, etc.), all based near Muslim cells. Their heavy listening means (notably mobile communications) lead the authors of the report to think that they certainly had precise details of the terrorist operation in preparation. The main Israeli group was adjacent to Hollywood, the command center of the terrorist operations.

On the morning of September 11, just after the first impact on the twin towers, several members of the New Jersey Israeli cell, listened to by the FBI, would have rejoiced on the phone about the success of the operation. The report highlights the discrepancy between the vague warnings given by the Israelis to the Americans in the second half of August 2001 and the precision of the information that the groups operating on American territory certainly had, and "kept an eye on" the Muslim groups; it questions the role of the CIA, which seemed to protect these Israeli groups, and the ambiguity of the cooperation of "foreign intelligence" with the FBI, which did not hesitate to place several of these Israeli citizens implicated on the list of suspects of September 11, along with the Muslims.

But these Israelis will not remain long in the United States. Probably due to the pressures of the CIA and its relations with the Mossad, they will be expelled freely to Israel and the matter of the Israeli spies of September 11 will no longer be mentioned, not even in France, let alone in the United States.

To this is added the whole set of strange financial speculations, noticed by the New York Stock Exchange Commission.

False flag operation?

If one synthesizes these three parts, each strongly shaking the official theory, one then sees a sort of conspiracy - not necessarily at a governmental or presidential level, but necessarily involving components of the American and/or Israeli intelligence - superimposed on the Islamic conspiracy.

A conspiracy aimed at carrying out a "false flag" attack in order to justify strong American political choices. Al-Qaeda, whose responsibility in the September 11 attacks has never really been established, would then be only the executing network and the visible responsible of this conspiracy.

Planes remotely piloted would have been guided onto towers that were supposed to collapse under the effect of controlled explosions, orchestrated from the control center of Building 7.

Flight AA 77 would have landed at an airbase in Ohio where it would have disappeared with its passengers and would have been replaced by a Global Hawk drone sent to the wing under renovation of the Pentagon.

The tragic events of September 11 would then have constituted the first act of a sort of invisible coup limiting civil liberties (Patriot Act), and giving considerable geopolitical maneuvering margins to America (Central Asia, Iraq, Iran, etc.) and Israel (freed from international constraints on Palestine thanks to the specter of international terrorism), as well as new economic perspectives to the US military-industrial complex and the oil industry.

In an America haunted by the memory of the assassination of Kennedy and by the ambiguities of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, deeply marked by the culture of conspiracy (its thrillers multiply scenarios and invisible coups against the old American freedoms), and where the CIA has heavy precedents in "false flag" operations, is the theory of an internal conspiracy really more surprising than the official theory according to which inexperienced and untrained people in intelligence techniques would have succeeded in such an extraordinary operation?

Everything is there. Chauprade went beyond what I myself had put in my pages. He even identifies the type of drone that would be the best candidate for this false flag operation, the "Global Hawk" and as a former aeronautics engineer (Supaéro 1961) I agree with him. I had simply never dared to go further than expressing my doubt regarding the Pentagon's impact by a Boeing 757. There are images of one of these drones camouflaged to look like the plane of flight 77.

Here is what a Global Hawk drone camouflaged as an American Airlines plane could have looked like. In an approach at 700 km/h (without hyperlifters), making the distinction, for a witness who only has a fleeting view of the plane, seems difficult.

It should be noted that the camouflage of such a drone can be perfected to be identified as a Boeing 737 of the American Airlines company. To do this, it would be sufficient to paint the structures to be seen, except for the colored stripes, the "windows" and the company logo, in metallic color (on the 737s of American Airlines the metal of the fuselage is exposed). Then: complete this mimicry by painting, for example, the engine cowling in sky color. Let's not forget that such an aircraft, flying at 680 km/h, would appear before witnesses only in a very fleeting manner, for less than two seconds. What would those witnesses see? Everything that would catch the eye: the windows, the colored stripes, the company insignia. In experimental psychology (I have long collaborated with such a department, at the Faculty of Letters in Aix-en-Provence), the concept of expected signal emerges: "the signal one expects". This is also at the base of optical illusions. Imagine that the Pentagon was hit by an elephant, catapulted at 680 km/h, carrying a camouflage evoking windows and insignia. Never would a witness be able to say "I saw an elephant hit the Pentagon". Between two "signals", unconsciously, the witness chooses, prioritizes the most plausible.

You have in this video elements referring to this hypothesis of the Global Hawk drone, which must be revisited, since Chauprade raised it.

What are the main elements to retain? The Global Hawk is much lighter than a 737 and its design is completely different. Its wings and tail, in particular, are made of carbon fiber, a material that would explode into fragments at the moment of impact, without representing a very high kinetic energy. As shown in the video, many unidentified civilians carefully and systematically combed the part of the lawn located just in front of the facade. The day after, construction vehicles upset the terrain, supposedly to facilitate access for repairs. In fact, this led to the disappearance of all traces, of all evidence (and the same happened for the WTC debris, quickly moved, sold, destroyed). Whereas in the case of an airplane crash, there is an investigation and the first thing done is to secure the site of the investigation to allow it to take place.

Another remark: flight 77 seems to escape air traffic control for a long time when it is supposed to perform its approach from the southwest. Let us recall that the Global Hawk drone is capable of flying at 18,000 meters altitude, above civilian air routes (10,000 meters). It is also designed to be difficult to detect by radar. Many investigators had imagined this scenario for a long time: that of replacing the civilian flight, landing on a base, the plane destroyed, the passengers killed, then replaced by a drone performing its approach at high altitude, undetected. Finally, in its final phase, the drone performs a descent until the final approach and collision. Another scenario: that of a low altitude approach, a drone taking off from a shorter distance from its target.

Recently, professional journalists, including the indispensable and inimitable Philippe Val, editor-in-chief of Charlie Hebdo, participated in the presentation of a dossier aimed at discrediting what circulates on the net, which, according to them, is "anything and its opposite". **Towards a false flag operation to legitimize an attack on Iran? **

I say that the jet fuel from the planes burned completely in a few seconds, as is the case during plane crashes, when the fuel tanks are ruptured. And they are easily ruptured. The lightweight alloy of a commercial airplane does not exceed 2 mm in thickness. If you wanted to imagine a commercial airplane as a one-meter model, you would have to imagine it made of low grammage paper!

I take refined petroleum, used by fire breathers. I pour half a glass into a flat dish and approach a match. It will burn slowly, like alcohol, to flame the pancakes. Why? Because it is a combustible and not an explosive. A fuel is a fuel that needs oxygen to burn. An explosive is a reactive mixture that does not need any external input, except the minimum necessary to trigger this chain reaction that is an explosion. By the way, how does the exothermic chemical reaction spread in an explosive? Through a shock wave, called a detonation wave. This wave compresses and heats the medium as it passes, which reacts. The Israelis, writes Chomsky, play intimidation. By severely punishing the population of Gaza, they hope the population will abandon the Hamas. I'm not sure they will succeed. This was also the policy of the French in Algeria, with "well-targeted intimidation strikes," especially on villages in the small Kabylie. Chauprade wins his appeal against the minister of defense, but the press says nothing about it.

Aymeric Chauprade Editor of political science and history since 1994 and professor of geopolitics since 1999, Aymeric Chauprade is also an international consultant for major French groups or for states on geopolitical disputes.

He has published several books, including "Geopolitics, constants and changes in history" (Éd. Ellipses), which has become a reference manual, and more recently "Chronicle of the Clash of Civilizations" (February 2009, Éd. Dargaud), which caused his abrupt removal from his geopolitics chair.

Hugues Wagner, Tuesday, July 7, 2009 Hugues Wagner: You have been accused of being a proponent of the conspiracy theory, although you are not known for that. What happened?

Aymeric Chauprade: It all started with an article by Jean Guisnel in the French weekly Le Point of February 5, 2009, which asked the Minister of Defense for my head because I dared to echo non-conformist theories about September 11, 2001.

I wanted to show that the clash of civilizations is first of all the fact that a large part of humanity, outside the Western world, does not believe in the official version of this event given by the American government, which has become the mandatory version of Western media. In "Chronicle of the Clash of Civilizations" - which is a global geopolitics atlas and not at all a book limited to September 11 - I propose the most advanced synthesis I know to date of what could be an alternative scenario to the official version. I do not take sides. I present the arguments of the proponents of this so-called conspiracy theory and I do not conclude. I remain cautious. But my "crime" was daring to present these elements of contestation of the official version in a credible and therefore convincing way.

I am a scientist, I have a first training in mathematics and physics before moving to political science.

Having explored the subject (especially in the United States) and having spoken a lot about it with French intelligence experts (who do not speak but do not think any less), I can tell you that I have more than important doubts about the official version.

In any case, I don't see why it would be forbidden to think about this subject. One would have the right to imagine terrible things about Muslims or any civilization, but as soon as it touches the Americans, and even more so Israel, it is almost a crime against humanity to imagine that cynical people could have conceived such a crime.

Hugues Wagner: You have just had the minister's decision suspended by the administrative court. Can you teach again?

Aymeric Chauprade: After a first urgent request, we made a second one, showing that the decision threatened my personal economy. The judge of urgent measures ruled that a fundamental freedom, that of the right to defense, had been seriously violated. I fell on an independent and just judge, in a France increasingly locked down in the media and politically. Even when everything is locked down, one must always believe in France. Consequence: theoretically I can resume my classes. Obviously, in practice it is more complicated. The Ministry of Defense will have to clearly state what fault I could have committed. In reality, everyone knows that the real reason for my removal is that I was the last representative, in defense institutions, of the Gaullist line in foreign policy.

I am for a multipolar world and not for this crazy policy of "the West against the others" that those in power in France represent.

Hugues Wagner: What were the reactions of your students and colleagues, especially from the Royal Military Higher College of Morocco, where you teach?

Aymeric Chauprade: I am extremely touched by the very numerous manifestations of solidarity I have received. Not only the vast majority of French officers from the War School, but also the foreigners. The African trainees were very angry, especially those from Arab countries. I have received, more discreetly, expressions of friendship from Asian countries. My removal is rightly interpreted as an obvious manifestation of France's break with the fundamentals of its foreign policy of balance. I am waiting to see what the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces College will do. I have been teaching there for six years and I have always been satisfactory. They liked my freedom of expression in Rabat. I am directly employed by the Moroccans and not by the French part. Normally, since Morocco is no longer a protectorate, I expect nothing to change, despite the pressures.

Hugues Wagner: What do you think about France's reintegration into the command of the Atlantic Alliance (NATO)?

Aymeric Chauprade: It is contrary to France's interest and we have not had a real national debate on this subject. I am struck by how much the French media are locked down by American and Israeli influence networks that have completely neutralized any possibility of debate. Since the withdrawal of this command in 1966, there was a consensus between right and left. The "added value" of France on the international scene partly came from this unique position, from this legacy of the third way, I dare say of non-alignment, because if France is indeed Western, it should not for that reduce its global policy to a Western policy. Its vocation is to defend the multipolar balance, so that all civilizations have their place in History.

Hugues Wagner: Is an alliance directed against a target. Russia, China, Iran, terrorism?

Aymeric Chauprade: The Americans have replaced the fight against communism with the fight against terrorism. This new ideology aims to unite the former allies of the Cold War. Logically, there should have been a strong Europe after the Cold War. What do we have today? An economy Europe, but geographically speaking, a component of a transatlantic bloc dominated by the United States. President Chirac tried to oppose this with his courageous act in 2003 with the Iraq affair. I am convinced that what is happening today is the backlash of 2003. The Americans said: "These French opposed Iraq; it's a failure, change things in France and they will not oppose tomorrow on Iran."

Hugues Wagner: The former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin stated that NATO was "completely under American control." Is that your opinion?

Aymeric Chauprade: He is right. Villepin was the honor of France at the UN podium in 2003. Today, like others, he is right to recall this obvious fact: after the disappearance of the Warsaw Pact, NATO should have disappeared. It did not disappear because it was, since 1990, a priority for the United States to expand and strengthen it. The organization of Central and Eastern Europe goes hand in hand with the expansion of the European Union. And the Americans, seeing that Germany was pushing to rebuild its sphere of influence at the collapse of Yugoslavia, understood that there was a potential for war that could give a reason for NATO to exist again. With Yugoslavia, NATO slid towards a humanitarian, Manichean war... Hugues Wagner: Is it true that you defend a theory of the clash of civilizations, especially through an opposition between Europe (including Russia) and Islam?

Aymeric Chauprade: Civilizations are an important factor in History, but I do not reduce History to the clash of civilizations. Civilizations exist, one cannot deny it. And in the long term, the issue of the hierarchy of power between civilizations is a reality. The European West became the engine of globalization in the 16th century and replaced Islam by circumventing it through the opening of the great maritime routes that allowed reaching Asia. Today, perhaps Asia is taking the lead in globalization and what threatens us is a war of America not accepting its decline. Jacques Sapir wisely argues that if America can no longer impose the American order, it will create disorder... I believe in these realities. So there is not only Islam and Europeans; these power relations between civilizations also exist between Chinese and Indians, between Hindu Indians and Muslims, etc.

I believe that Europeans and Russians have a common destiny to build and they must build a balanced relationship with the Muslim world. France must develop a smart and balanced Arab policy. The Russians have experience with the Caucasian and Central Asian Islam since the 18th century, while the Americans understand nothing about it.

Hugues Wagner: Some claim that you could have been the victim of a "purge campaign" conducted by a neoconservative circle close to power, as have been the journalists Richard Labévière of RFI, or Moktar Gaoud and Agnès Levallois of France 24... Aymeric Chauprade: It is not a supposition, it is a proven fact. France is currently undergoing a gentle and quiet purge (look at my case: although I won against a minister, no national daily reported it) of all those whose thinking goes against the interests of Israel and the United States. It may seem difficult to believe, but it is the truth. Whether it is people from the left or from the conservative right, all those who "fall" have one thing in common: their analyses do not go in the direction of American and Israeli interests.
