The Clip of the Century

January 16, 2009

We are in an era where newspaper readers and television viewers look elsewhere for what they expect from their media. Humor and "putting it in a box" have always been a French tradition. One remembers the Muppet Show. There are still fragments of programs that produce this kind of pamphlets: the "guignols de l'info". But what is the impact? Mitterrand never took offense at being represented as a frog: "Kermitterand", who is a frog, Chirac also. They all had their share. But, in the end, these television segments made them talk.

One might wonder how the Elysée will perceive the clip, which you may be able to download if it has not been banned. For me, it doesn't really make me laugh, because it's not a parody, it's simply... the truth. It has become quite bitter for millions of French people, while the first gesture of our honorable president was to significantly increase his emoluments, bringing them closer to those of his "sponsors", the CEOs of multinational corporations. Normal...

Anyway, nice work by the authors. Some lyrics are not entirely audible (it would deserve a French subtitle, like in a Bobby Lapointe song, in "Shoot the Pianist" by Truffaut). I think this clip should be translated into various foreign languages and subtitled.
