My wife and I love animated films. Since Jie discovered Disney's The Jungle Book, she has watched it at least ten times.
It's great, but there is really a revival of the genre. I loved the two Toy Story films. I think of the "space ranger," that toy who thinks he's a superman and suddenly discovers that his control panel is just a sticker! And this masterpiece, Ratatouille!
Not only bad things come from the other side of the Atlantic. I am not a visceral anti-American, nor an anti-anything person. I don't think that spreading violence is a good thing. I prefer poetry, tenderness. In this regard, the animated film Ratatouille is a small masterpiece. I keep as treasures the DVDs of Singin' in the Rain and An American in Paris. What a genius, this Gene Kelly. This man may never be replaced again. A unique appearance in the world of dance. Strange.
Pixar's house announces a new animated film, to be released on July 29, 2009 in France, with a very short title:
UP (French translation: "Up")
From what I understand, it's the story of an old misanthrope, Karl Fredericsen

Who lives in an old wooden house, trapped between buildings, which he never wanted to sell.

One day, his neighbors witness a surprising event. A multitude of colorful balloons emerge from the house's chimney:

And the house takes off...

Slowly, majestically.

It gains altitude, escorted by birds.

But the old misanthrope has a bad surprise. A young boy-scout, probably coming to sell him stamps, ends up, against his will, caught up in this adventure. "Open up," he says to the old man.

Don't you want to know what happens next?
