An anti-bunker bomb
August 21, 2005
Here is an extremely spectacular video that is supposed to show tests of an American bomb against a bunker protecting an aircraft. But since we do not know where this video, sent by a reader, was taken from, we give it to you without guarantee.
As, nowadays, it is becoming extremely difficult to tell the difference between the real document and computer-generated imagery, we have asked our readers to investigate this matter. According to specialists, it is indeed a device with fairly modest performance and weight. The thickness of concrete is also fairly limited. Let us say that it is a device intended to attack aircraft which, without air bases, find refuge under concrete canopies, of obviously limited thickness. Such a device can be dropped by fighter-bombers carrying out a ground attack. There are, on the other hand, much more impressive devices, which can only be dropped from aircraft such as the C-130. There is a video where one sees such a monster, weighing 7 tons, dropped from the rear door of a C-1309 and whose descent is filmed. These devices were used from the war in Afghanistan onward, with, it seems, rather few results, when the Taliban refuges (caves in the mountains) could be inspected.
