Guantanamo: destruction of mental structures through sensory deprivation.
Different forms of torture
February 2, 2009
What is the meaning of the word torture? In the Larousse, the word torture refers to the word ordeal, which is described as a corporal punishment inflicted on someone.
There are different ways of attacking an individual's body. Ordeals, tortures, can leave more or less visible traces. As for corporal traces, some are visible but not disabling, such as cigarette burn marks. Others leave no visible trace, such as "the water torture," where, moreover, no bathtub is used, but where the victim is gradually suffocated by letting water flow over a wet cloth applied to the opening of their respiratory tract, an ordeal commonly practiced and claimed in particular by certain American figures as "a somewhat pushed form of interrogation." But one can also attack individuals' brains.
The panoply of such "treatments" is left to the torturers' imagination, who find therein the opportunity to exercise pathological impulses, as was the case in the Nazi camps. Among these methods: sexual assaults (masturbation, sodomization or fellatio performed on Muslim detainees, in addition to sensory deprivation).
At Guantanamo the Americans have systematized, not a form of torture, but of destruction of individuals' mental structures, which can be achieved through sensory deprivation. The photo below shows prisoners, detained without trial, "treated" with the most complete sensory deprivation possible:

Guantanamo: destruction of mental structures through sensory deprivation.
The prisoners have their hands bound. They are on their knees, heads down, in a position of submission. Earphones deprive them of auditory stimuli. Masks plunge them into the most complete darkness. Gags prevent any verbal expression. It will be noted that those carrying out these treatments wear rubber gloves, to avoid any physical contact with the detainees and to dehumanize the detainees as much as possible. This treatment quickly causes hallucinatory effects. This complements sleep deprivation, prolonged standing, which deprives the brain of blood flow. The goal is to make the subjects lose their sense of space and time. All this was practiced at Guantanamo with the approval of Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of State for Defense.
With such treatment, which is not without recalling a Kubrik film whose name escapes me (&&&) the American soldiers hope to destroy in these individuals any possible form of revolt by turning them into veritable zombies, who could then safely be released into the wild (in fact, those who survive this treatment will be released into the wild drunk with vengeance, especially if they underwent this treatment while innocent!).
In doing so, these people being considered "terrorists," those carrying out this kind of treatment most certainly have the impression of accomplishing a patriotic work there, by protecting American citizens and soldiers from a resumption of aggressive activity on the part of these prisoners considered, not as opponents or prisoners of war, but as criminals, whose faults would be so heavy that they would not even deserve a trial, nor even to benefit from the Geneva conventions, but only "a treatment with limits left to the appreciation of those who take charge of them."
This is not new and recalls the Soviet trials (Prague trials, brainwashing), or the hysteria of the "re-education" of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. See also internments in psychiatric hospitals, practiced by the Soviets, with destruction, this time chemical, of an individual's mental capacities.
Given the evolution of today's world, and the generalization of this concept of "war against terrorism," a "terrorist" being simply an individual who, somewhere, simply does not agree with the local dominant power, anyone reading these lines can know that it is not impossible for them to find themselves one day subjected to such treatment.

The number of individuals having been subjected to this kind of treatment by American specialized services, approved by the Secretary of State for Defense, Donald Rumsfeld and by President Bush, is estimated at 50,000. These techniques were quickly exported to different countries, and gave rise to the Bagram and Abu Graib affairs. It should be noted that 35% of American citizens approve of these methods "intended to guarantee their security."

Muslim prisoner "treated like a dog". Maximum dehumanization.
