Tacit contract for people who are asleep

Silence gives consent!

The system put in place in our free world rests on the tacit agreement of a sort of contract made with each of us, the broad outlines of which are given here. Here is the contract "renewable by tacit renewal" that you sign every morning when you wake up, simply ... by doing nothing.

  1. I accept competition as the basis of our system, even if I am aware that this way of operating generates frustration and anger for the vast majority of losers.

  2. I accept being humiliated or exploited on condition that I in turn be allowed to humiliate or exploit someone occupying a lower place in the social pyramid.

  3. I accept the social exclusion of marginals, misfits and the weak because I consider that society's capacity to take charge has its limits.

  4. I accept paying the banks so that they invest my wages as they see fit, and that they pay me no dividend from their gigantic profits (which will serve to plunder poor countries, which I implicitly accept). I also accept that they take a large commission to lend me money that is none other than that of the other clients.

  5. I accept that tons of food be frozen and thrown away so that prices do not collapse, rather than giving it to the needy and allowing a few hundred thousand people not to die of hunger each year.

  6. I accept that it be forbidden to end one's days quickly, but on the other hand I tolerate doing so slowly by inhaling or ingesting toxic substances authorized by the states.

  7. I accept that war be waged to make peace reign. I accept that in the name of peace, the first expense of states be the defense budget. I therefore accept that conflicts be created artificially to clear weapons stocks and keep the world economy running,

  8. I accept the hegemony of oil in our economy, although it is a costly and polluting energy, and I agree to prevent any attempt at substitution, should it turn out that a free and unlimited means of producing energy be discovered, which would be our undoing.

  9. I accept that the murder of one's neighbor be condemned, unless the states decree that he is an enemy and encourage us to kill him.

  10. I accept that public opinion be divided by creating right-wing and left-wing parties that will spend their time fighting each other while giving me the impression of moving the system forward. I moreover accept all kinds of possible divisions, provided they allow me to focus my anger toward the designated enemies whose portraits will be waved before my eyes,

  11. I accept that the power to shape public opinion, once held by religions, be today in the hands of businessmen not democratically elected and totally free to control the states, for I am convinced of the good use they will make of it,

  12. I accept the idea that happiness boils down to comfort, love to sex, and freedom to the satisfaction of all desires, because that is what advertising keeps dinning into me all day long. The unhappier I am, the more I will consume: I will fulfill my role by contributing to the proper functioning of our economy.

  13. I accept that a person's worth be measured by the size of his bank account, that his usefulness be appraised according to his productivity rather than his quality, and that he be excluded from the system if he is no longer productive enough.

  14. I accept that football players or actors be paid handsomely, and teachers and doctors in charge of the education and health of future generations much less.

  15. I accept that elderly people whose experience could be useful to us be sidelined by society, for being the most evolved civilization on the planet (and doubtless in the universe) we know that experience is neither shared nor passed on.

  16. I accept that negative and terrifying news from the world be presented to me every day, so that I can appreciate how normal our situation is and how lucky I am to live in the West. I know that fostering fear in our minds can only be beneficial to us.

  17. I accept that industrialists, soldiers and politicians meet regularly to make, without consulting us, decisions that commit the future of life and of the planet.

  18. I accept consuming beef treated with hormones without being explicitly told so. I accept that the cultivation of GMOs spread throughout the world, thus allowing the agri-food trusts to patent living things, rake in substantial dividends and hold world agriculture under their yoke,

  19. I accept that international banks lend money to countries wishing to arm themselves and fight, and thus choose those who will wage war and those who will not. I am aware that it is better to finance both sides in order to be sure of making money, and to make conflicts last as long as possible so as to be able to fully plunder their resources if they cannot repay the loans,

  20. I accept that multinationals refrain from applying the social advances of the West in disadvantaged countries. Considering that it is already a boon to make them work, I prefer that the laws in force in those countries be used, allowing children to work in inhuman and precarious conditions. In the name of the rights of man and of the citizen, we have no right to interfere.

  21. I accept that politicians can be of doubtful honesty and sometimes even corrupt. I also think that this is normal given the strong pressures they are under. For the majority, however, zero tolerance must be the rule,

  22. I accept that pharmaceutical laboratories and agri-food industrialists sell expired products in disadvantaged countries or use carcinogenic substances banned in the West.

  23. I accept that the rest of the planet, that is to say four billion individuals, can think differently provided that they do not come to express their beliefs among us, and even less attempt to explain our History with their primitive philosophical notions.

  24. I accept the idea that there are only two possibilities in nature, namely to hunt or to be hunted. And if we are endowed with a conscience and a language, it is certainly not to escape this duality, but to justify why we act in this way.

  25. I accept to consider our past as an uninterrupted series of conflicts, political conspiracies and hegemonic ambitions, but I know that today all this no longer exists because we are at the pinnacle of our evolution, and that the only rules governing our world are the pursuit of happiness and the freedom of all peoples, as we constantly hear in our political speeches,

  26. I accept without discussion and I consider as truths all the theories proposed to explain the mystery of our origins. And I accept that nature could have taken millions of years to create a human being whose only pastime is the destruction of his own species in a few moments.

  27. I accept the pursuit of profit as the supreme goal of Humanity, and the accumulation of wealth as the fulfillment of human life.

  28. I accept the destruction of forests, the near-disappearance of river and ocean fish. I accept the increase in industrial pollution and the dispersion of chemical poisons and radioactive elements in nature. I accept the use of all kinds of chemical additives in my food, because I am convinced that if they are put there, it is because they are useful and harmless,

  29. I accept the economic war raging on the planet, even if I feel that it is leading us towards an unprecedented catastrophe,

  30. I accept this situation, and I admit that I can do nothing to change or improve it,

  31. I accept being treated like cattle, because all things considered, I think I am worth no better.

  32. I accept not to ask any questions, to close my eyes to all this, and to formulate no real opposition because I am far too busy with my life and my worries. I even accept to defend this contract to the death if you ask me to.

  33. I therefore accept, in all conscience and definitively, this sad matrix that you place before my eyes to prevent me from seeing the reality of things. I know that you act for my good and for that of all, and I thank you for it.
