About my article on the LEN – Readers’ reactions

May 27, 2004

Hello, Mr. Petit,

From your website, I see that you’re interested in freedoms related to computer communications. But this isn’t a problem unique to France. In Italy, Berlusconi has taken control of the media (see Arte report from May 26, 2004) in order to seize absolute power. At the European level, powerful multinational corporations like Microsoft are pushing for software patents in order to stifle free software like Linux. See the website: http://swpat.ffii.org (archive from 12/01/2026).

During his last presidential campaign, Chirac was against software patents. In the European Commission, lawmakers voted in favor of laws regarding software patents; see these articles:

In short, they want to patent as many things as possible, all while enacting repressive laws and making us believe that we must vote so that democracy can exist.

But how long will this charade last?
