My wife and I love animated films. Ever since Jie discovered Disney's The Jungle Book, she has watched it at least ten times.
It's excellent, but there really is a revival of the genre. I loved both TOY STORY films. I'm thinking of the "space ranger," that toy who thinks he's a superman and who suddenly discovers that his control panel is just a glued-on label! And that marvel that is Ratatouille!
Not only bad things come from the other side of the Atlantic. I'm not a visceral anti-American, nor an anti-anyone, for that matter. I don't think that distilling violence is a good thing. I prefer poetry, tenderness. On that front, the animated film Ratatouille is a small masterpiece. I keep the DVDs of Singin' in the Rain and An American in Paris as treasures. What a genius, that Gene Kelly. That man will perhaps never be replaced. A unique apparition, in the world of dance. Strange.
The Pixar house announces a new animated film to us, to be released on July 29, 2009 in France, with a very brief title:
UP( French translation: " là-haut " )
From what I understood, it's the story of an old misanthrope, Karl Fredericsen
Who lives in an old wooden house, stuck between buildings, which he has never wanted to sell.
One day, his neighbors witness a surprising thing. Myriads of multicolored balloons emerge from the house's chimney:
And the house flies away......
Slowly, majestically.
It gains altitude, escorted by birds
.
But the old misanthrope has a bad surprise. A young boy scout, who has no doubt come to sell him stamps, finds himself, in spite of himself, embarked on this adventure. Open up, he says to the old man ..
*You want to know the rest, don't you? *
