Triangular puzzle, the solution
January 25, 2006

By drawing a horizontal line from each vertex located at the top and on the right of the triangles, you immediately see that their hypotenuses are not straight, because the human eye perceives areas better than straightness.
*A tip: don't buy a used car from the guy who invented this thing. *
PS: In case all this doesn't jump out at you:
- Print the two figures and take a ruler to check that the hypotenuses are not straight
- You are astigmatic
Decidedly, my site is very "interactive". Nicolas Roger points out a very simple way to "see" that the red and green triangles do not have the same slope.
2/5 = 0.4 3/8 = 0.375
*Well played! *
Philippe Errembault: The scam is only 1.5% of the total area... If I could buy a car without being ripped off any more than that, I'd be rather happy.
