Mr. SASSI: For what reasons do you not employ anyone to work in the mine gallery?

Mr. LAZAREWICZ: There’s no urgency.

Mr. FILIPPI: What is a reasonable timeframe for allowing staff to work? You’ve been leading us on since Monday. Today, after 4 days, please tell us what you intend to do. How long will this situation last? What will become of the staff assigned to maintaining the tailings piles? The danger won’t ever be eliminated—so what do you plan to do?

Mr. BAUDRY: If you have concerns today, what will happen when the miners receive letters? That’s what I’m wondering.

Mr. LAZAREWICZ: The concern relates mainly to the workers.

Mr. BONNET: Every time there have been serious accidents or disasters, Management has informed us so we could immediately assess the situation on site. We’re currently shut down, and the only people who can determine whether any serious incidents occurred underground are members of Management. Management has granted itself full authority to go underground on Saturdays and Sundays. Therefore, I reiterate my request to know the number of teams and the names of those who went underground.

Mr. FILIPPI: Didn’t you consider that these people were at risk? You exposed staff to danger while prohibiting access to the site for 4 days.

Mr. LAZAREWICZ: The decision was made over the weekend.

Mr. SASSI: We could also have observed the same things as you starting Friday.

Mr. BONNET: We very well could have held an extraordinary CE and CHSCT meeting last Saturday.

Mr. FILIPPI: Who went underground?

Mr. LAZAREWICZ: They were the teams scheduled to work on Saturday.

Mr. TRIOLO: Please tell us exactly what those teams observed underground.

Mr. LAZAREWICZ: They found deterioration of the machinery park (machinery damaged), oil tanks completely empty, the storeroom ransacked, and tools and spare parts missing. Such events have never happened before. Therefore, we must take certain precautions.
